Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council has accepted a non-material change (NMC) to Northern Ireland's largest solar farm on land to the south of Antrim Town. The NMC legislation was introduced to Northern Ireland in 2015 and offers developers a method of making insignificant alterations to schemes without the need to go through the full planning process. In this case, the development needs to be taken forward in three phases due to grid capacity limitations. The NMC approval allows the financing arrangements to be finalised and the scheme to move forward to the development stage. The application has been processed very efficiently thanks to the proactive attitude of the local planning office. We hope that the NMC means that development activity can begin in the very near future.
